Seattle, April 10, 2021 – Al-Barr announces its most recent campaign to support, via scholarship, 20 needy children across a diverse diaspora. These students range from grades K-12 and are suffering from economic hardship. Here are some of their stories:
Suresh is an eighth-grade student who wants to grow up to be a Police Officer. He lives in a small, mudded house in the remote village of South 24 Parganas district. His father is a private vehicle driver who earns a mere amount of 4000 rupees per month (approximately 54 US dollars), while living away from their families who reside in the city of Kolkata. In a life full of hardships, his father hopes to educate his son and turn Suresh’s dreams into reality.
Binay is a private driver who earns 9,000 Indian rupees per month (approximately 120 US dollars). He lives in the city of Kolkata with his two sons. Ishan, a sixth grader, and Kushal who is in the second grade, are both very enthusiastic about their studies and love to go to school. His wife works as a domestic cook in multiple houses to support the family’s financial needs. While living in the city, Binay needs all the help he can get to help support his children’s education.
Another one of the students, Rayyan, lives in the suburbs of Kolkata. He is a student in class 6. He dreams of finishing his education, getting a job, and helping his family. He is one of 2 children. His father is jobless for the last 2 years and works as a daily wager in his local area. The recurring expenses of medicine and treatment makes life even more difficult, and the family is finding it hard to make ends meet. Rayyan aims to become a doctor and serve society.
Rayyan has a younger brother named Raamiz who is eligible for elementary school. However, his father cannot afford to pay his school admission fees, so Raamiz is not able to start school. But he hopes to get admitted in school very soon and dreams of becoming a pilot when he grows up.
These students are from a very underserved population, but are incredibly talented and driven. Al-Barr wants to make a difference in their lives by ensuring that their full tuition fees are paid for 2021.
