Gandhi believes that the true core of a person is the part that is not selfish and works hard for others. He is saying that the essence of what we really are (the thing we have to find) is caring for others. If we act selfishly, we aren't acting as our true selves. In order to be the best person you can be, you should focus on finding ways to serve others. In serving others, you find out more about yourself and help others in the process. Being selfless can often be the best way to be happy. According to a UCL article, "There is some evidence to suggest that when you help others, it can promote physiological changes in the brain linked with happiness. This heightened sense of well-being might be the byproduct of being more physically active as a result of volunteering, or because it makes us more socially active." Assissting others can also give a sense of belonging and purpose as well as boost your self-esteem.
